I am a K-5 Computer Science teacher and the tech leader for our school. Each year we use funds to purchase and replace headphones and earbuds for our kids. Earbuds have to be replaced. Ew.Headphones, I WISH could last from year to year. We have tried the buy once cry once approach and spent a good deal of money on other sets of headphones, but have found that they just don't last. All seem to have a failure point for kids. Some kids are unnecessarily tough on them. Others just don't know they're straining certain parts of the set.1. Durability: The right angle plug is nice because kids have a place for their tiny fingers to push into the port. A straight plug breaks because they bend the cord over and push at that curve/bend and it eventually breaks. However, when kids use their tiny fingers to PULL the plug out they can't. Soooo... they've adapted by pulling on the cord. This puts strain on where the cord meets the thicker part of the plug and it breaks eventually. We have tried training the kids to pull the plugs the right way, but you can't watch a whole class one by one each time they plug/unplug their headphones.2. Fit: I have not yet had a K-2 sized kid complain about them not fitting. This is about a sampling of 200 kids over the past 3 years. So quite a few. Earbuds just don't fit into tiny ears.3. Comfort: I have also not had many kids complain about their comfort. Maybe a few. They toughen up or they don't. What can you say?4. Labeling: The plastic they are made out of is good for writing a name or student number on the ear part.5. Price: Since we pretty much have to replace headphones each year these are the best price point I've found.I wish we didn't send headphones to the landfill each year. What can you do?
