Many teachers who work in urban schools find classroom management to be very problematic. Their university course work, and training, didn’t prepare them for the heavy demands of being an urban school teacher. Urban educators need to be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage adverse behaviors, and still deliver a quality education to all students.Classroom Management: A Guide for Urban School Teachers is designed to give educators practical strategies that will help them deal with the unique challenges faced by urban school teachers today. Whether the teacher is a novice teaching professional, or an experienced veteran; he/she will be able to learn how to establish and maintain control over the classroom environment, effectively deal with the most extreme student misbehaviors, establish rapport with students and parents, and reduce the amount of students sent to the principal’s office on referrals. After reading this book, teachers will be able to combat the negative forces that adversely affect the classroom setting, and be able to concentrate on teaching and learning.
I CANNOT begin to explain how happy I am that I found this book. Good, strong & PRACTICAL books on classroom management in general and for urban schools in particular is a topic that has been ignored for far too long. Sooo many books on classroom management tend to come from an idealized perspective with theoretical b.s. that sound good in theory, but when it comes to the practical application of a real world classroom JUST DON'T WORK! ESPECIALLY, when it comes to working within urban schools. Many teachers when going through school are not properly trained in the area of classroom management (I didn't have ONE single class on classroom management during under gad or graduate school) & are then expected to function in schools to do something they were never taught to do. It was so refreshing to get some practical advise from someone with real world experience who's been there, done that and done it successfully. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to any teacher working within urban schools that are struggling with classroom management. The CRAZY reviewer who wrote such a negative comment that dragged this book's rating down CLEARLY does not, has no desire & would not last working within an urban school. If you've taught in some of the urban schools here in NYC I've worked in you'd know that everything Sean B. Yisrael is describing is true. Thank You Mr. Yisrael & Keep Up The Good Work :-)
